Computer
Science has discovered many wonderful things and the computer is one of them. It is an ultra-modern invention. It has now become an essential part of modern life. Any device that helps people to perform mathematical calculations may be called a “computer”. It works based on commands given by the operator. It can solve a lot of complicated problems within a short time.
There is a long history of the invention of the computer. First of all, Pascal invented the theory of “Digital Calculating System” in 1642. Charles Bavez is called the father of the modern computer. In 1833 he invented the structure of the computer. Then it had only five parts Store, Mill, Control, Input and Output.
Finally, Mr. Haward Akin, an American scientist, invented a machine in 1937 that could do difficult sums. Following this invention, Harvard University and IBM company combinedly invented the modern electronic computer in 1944. After this, it has been developed day by day.
There are different kinds of computers. Each special system is called “generation”. At present fourth generation computer has been used. They are UNIVAC-1, ICL-2900, IBM-640 and ADSAC-205 computer. At present, only I.C. (Integrated Circuit) computers are available in the computer market.
A computer performs three functions. Such as receiving data, processing data, and emitting data. The output is printed by a printing machine.
The main parts of a computer are the Central Processing Unit (CPU), Monitor, Keyboard, mouse, sound box, etc.
Computers have brought about a revolutionary change in our lives. Nowadays computer is used in educational institutions, companies, business firms, railways, government offices, weather offices, industries, presses, the telecommunication sector, the medical sector, airlines, the agricultural sector, research work, space communication technology, etc. So it is seen that it is used in almost every sector. It has lessened our work. It can run a business, play various games, compose music, etc. So people call it an electronic brain.
Sometimes computer creates problems when its memory unit is attacked with the virus. Data and results are stored in the memory unit. So when a computer is damaged anyhow, we may lose necessary information. On the other hand, it is making us lazy day by day. Many young people are addicted to computer games.
The operator loses the power of his eyesight. Despite these bad sides, we are to use computers to cope with the modern world.

Introduction: Computer is the most wonderful (বিষ্ময়কর) invention (আবিস্কার) of modern science. It is an ultra modern electronic device of modern technology (প্রযুক্তি). But if has no ability (সক্ষমতা) to do anything by itself. It works on the basis of commands (আদেশ) given by the operator (চালক). It can solve many complicated (জটিল) problems within a short time.
Invention and development: Computer was invented (আবিস্কার হয়েছিল) by the hard work of many scientists. Charles Bavez (চার্লস ব্যাভেজ) is called the father (জনক) of modern computer. He invented the structure (গঠন) of computer in 1833. His invented computer had five parts. these were Store, Mill, Control, Input and Output. By following the structure of computer of Bavez, Harvard University and I. B. M. Company combined (মিলিত) invented the modern computer in 1944. After this, it has been rapidly (দ্রুতভাবে) modified (কিছুটা রুপান্তর করা) and many other computers have been developed.
How It Works: A computer performs (সম্পাদন করা) three functions (কাজ). It receives data, processes it and at last emits (বের করা/নির্গমন করা) it. At first the details of work is put into the input of the computer. It is called programmer. The computer does not work in our language. So the programmer is to be put in its own language. This programmer is typed and produced in the tele-type unit of the information input. The output prints the results with the help of the printing machine.
Usefulness: Computer is a very useful thing to us. It is used in our daily life for various (নানা রকম) purposes. It has made a great change in education. The students of developed countries use computer to prepare their study materials (উপকরণ). The result of examinations now is prepared accurately (সঠিকভাবে) by computer within a short time.
Computer is used to diagnose (নির্ণয়) diseases. A new process of operation is invented by computer as an alternative to sugary. Beside this, computer is used is grind (চূর্ণ করা) stones (পাথর) in normal pathological (রোগ সংক্রান্ত) test.
Now-a-days, computer is used to prepare document and budget and to store information. The notice of currency and price of any share can be known instantly (তাৎক্ষনিকভাবে) by computer.
At Present, computer is used to run mills, factories and industries in developed countries. Cars, trains and planes are also run by the computer. Computer is being used in space (মহাশূণ্য) research (গবেষণা).
Disadvantages: In spite of having merits of computer, it has also some demerits. It weakens (দুর্বল করা) the eye-sight (চক্ষু দৃষ্টি) of the operator.
Conclusion: The computer is a blessing (আশির্বাদ) of modern science. Today’s world cannot be imagined (কল্পনা) without computer. It lessens (কমানো) our labor (শ্রম) and makes our work easy and simple. But computer has not been widely (ব্যাপকভাবে) introduced in Bangladesh. So Govt. should facilitate (সহজতর করা) its use all over the country.
