Mrs Jones tried to bring a change in Roger so that he could live peacefully. Mrs Jones had learnt a lot from her own mistake that she must have made at her young age. Therefore she understood the situation of Roger and guided him to a better life. This showed that Mrs Jones was a noble and virtuous woman who wanted to help Roger lead a life of honesty.
