Why did the Tsar not agree with the answers of the learned men? Who did the Tsar decide to consult again? What was this person famous for? How did the Tsar go to visit this person?

The Tsar did not agree with the answers of the learned men as they all gave contradictory and conflicting answers.

The answers of the learned men increased the Tsar’s confusion and he decided to consult a wise hermit again.

The hermit was famous for his wisdom. The Tsar visited the hermit in a wood which he never quitted, in the guise of a commoner as the hermit visited none but the common folk. Before reaching the hermit’s hut, he dismounted from his horse, left his bodyguard behind and went alone.

Why did the Tsar decide to meet the hermit? After meeting him, how did the Tsar assist him in his work?

Being confused and depressed with the answers of the wise men, the Tsar decided to consult the hermit. The answers provided by the wise men were not satisfactory. So, with the hope of knowing the appropriate answers, he visited the hermit in the guise of a commoner as the hermit received none but the common folk. The hermit was widely renowned for his wisdom. So, the Tsar wanted to try his fortune with his visit to the hermit’s cottage. When the Tsar approached, the hermit was digging the ground in front of his hut. Seeing the Tsar, the hermit greeted him and kept on digging. The hermit was frail and weak and had no one around to help him. The merciful Tsar, volunteered to take the spade from the hermit’s hand and continued digging the ground. He carried on for hours till sunset. Evidently, his motive was to gratify the hermit in order to receive the appropriate answers to his questions.

Describe the meeting of Tsar with the hermit.

Once, three important questions occurred to a Tsar’s mind and those were what should be the right time to do a work, who were the right people to deal with and what was the most important thing to do. He sought appropriate answers from many, but none’s answer could satisfy him. So, he decided to meet a hermit who was famous for his wisdom. When he approached the hermit’s hut, the hermit was digging the earth in front of his hut. The Tsar, requested him to answer his questions while helping the hermit to dig but the hermit did not oblige and continued with his work. Later, a bearded man who was severely wounded, came running. Both the Tsar and the hermit tended the wounded man and saved his life. Again, the Tsar asked the hermit to answer his questions to which the hermit replied that he had already been answered. Seeing the perplexed reaction of the Tsar, the hermit explained that the right time to begin everything is present. The right people whom one should listen to is the person with whom one is at any particular time and the most important thing to do is to do them good because that is why man has been sent to the earth for.
